I am a huge RPG nerd, and when you add making money with RPGs, I am sold.
That is what DeFi Kingdoms is doing right now. They are combining the finance with the Zelda: A Link to the Past aesthetic, and I am PUMPED because it gives structure to mastering a difficult task. Through gamification of the learning process, DeFi Kingdoms teaches you how to become a liquidity provider. If you haven’t interacted much with cryptocurrency yet, this game is a fun and cheap way to start.
This contract is on the Harmony One network. If you are familiar with bridging to a different layer-1, skip to the next section.
How to onboard Ethereum to Harmony
Download Metamask from here if you don’t have it already. Metamask is an Ethereum wallet with easy-to-use browser functions. If you already have a ledger or Trezor hard wallet, they integrate easily.
Once you finish creating your account (make sure to securely save your seed phrase or print out a hard copy), we need to switch to the Harmony network by clicking the circled icon, selecting custom RPC. Another way to get the metamask wallet set up for Harmony is to go directly to DeFi Kingdoms, and it will offer to add the custom RPC on metamask for you. I did it this way. If you don’t like clicking metamask links continue below.
Copy the following information:
Network Name: Harmony Mainnet
New RPC URL: https://api.harmony.one
Chain ID: 1666600000
Currency Symbol: ONE
Block Explorer URL: https://explorer.harmony.one/
You now have an account on the Harmony One chain. Send Ethereum to your new wallet address and wait for funds (You can find ONE on Binance.us if you have no ethereum) to confirm.
Bridging to Harmony (If you purchased Harmony from somewhere else, you could skip the bridging section)
Next, we access the bridge to Harmony here. Choose the amount you want to send. It would be wise to send a small amount for trading and think of layer-2 as a trading account. The initial deposit fees were $21.50 in gas, but check gas info for sending on lower demand timeframe to save on gas costs.
After transferring to Harmony, you need gas to make transfers. You can either ask nicely in the Defikingdoms discord in the newb area or comment below with your harmony wallet, and ill send you some to make some trades.
At this point, you are ready to enjoy Defi Kingdoms!
Welcome to the Kingdom
You should now have bridged some Ethereum (1ETH) to Harmony and have a little bit of ONE to send transfers (you only need a few ONE, transactions are incredibly cheap). You can now head over to DeFi Kingdoms and pick an avatar and name; once you create your persona, head over to the marketplace.
The marketplace is the exchange portion of the game. You need Jewels to interact inside the game. Currently, to get a hero, the cheapest available is around 50 jewels ($6.35 per Jewel). Click on the Trader outlined below and convert ETH>Jewel.
Once you have Jewel, you can now explore the rest of the game. There is:
Bank (single staking Jewel: ~50%APY)
Garden (liquidity providing)
Tavern (buy/sell heroes)
Portal (combine traits of 2 heroes to make a new one)
Wishing Well (the first quest released)
Bank
The next place to visit is the bank. This is where you store your jewel to earn interest. In DeFi terms, The bank functions as a single asset staking pool, which is a more conservative approach since you can withdraw your jewel without penalty or vested rewards. This is how you earn more jewels to complete tasks in the game, and since the game is new, it’s a great place to start.
Garden
The garden is another location on the world map that you will need to visit. The garden is where you can benefit the most in terms of APY but come with Vested rewards. Currently, 75% of your earnings are locked up until June of 2022 for a more even distribution of Jewel. The seedbox show you all available asset you can lend against each other. The list is already quite long, with $1WBTC, $1ETH, $1USDC, $BUSD, $UST, $MIS, $1SUPERBID, $WMATIC, $XYA, $bscBNB, $FTM, $LUNA, and $AVAX available as pairs.
Portal
One of the aspects of the game got released recently, and that is Heroes! They allow you to do simple tasks and collect Gaia’s Tears to help you summon a new hero from the void. When you collect enough tears (10 per hero), you can infuse a crystal with the arch druid and interact with the summoner to conjure them.
Tavern
Where do all heroes go after a long day of questing? The tavern, of course! You can buy and sell heroes at the tavern, and before beginning down that path, I would check out this article on the nuances. This is one of the steepest learning curves in the game, as there is a lot of variation between the heroes.
Wishing Well
This is the first quest added to DeFi Kingdoms. There is no label, and you have to click the fountain outlined in the above image. The quest consists of completing two transactions, a start and complete quest function, which yields randomized loot and experience. Currently, this is the only way to earn Gaia’s Tears (DFKTEARS) for the breeding aspect.
Future of DeFi Kingdoms
I will keep everyone updated on this platform as I think it has a ton of potential. I listened to the team AMA (Ask Me Anything), and their vision for the completed project was fully fleshed out. I am looking forward to what can be accomplished.
